Preparations for this year’s major Tannistest are well underway. From September 19 to 24, we will once again bring together an impressive lineup of candidate cars competing for the prestigious title The Car of the Year 2027

All nominated vehicles to be a Candidate 2027 are invited to take part in an intensive week of testing, where jury members from across Europe gather in Northern Jutland, Denmark. Here, the cars are put through their paces on a wide variety of roads and under diverse driving conditions, ensuring a thorough and balanced evaluation.
Denmark will provide the full list of eligible vehicles for the final shortlist of seven cars, which will be announced in December. The winner will be announced at the Brussels Motor Show in the second half of January.
The Tannistest is a major test in which, halfway through the year’s new model launches, manufacturers present their best models in the bid to claim the crown, which in the 2026 edition was won by the Mercedes-Benz CLA.
The tests will take place over on the roads in the area between the bunkers at Skajen and the Rubjerg lighthouse, and on the runways at Sindal Airport and the beaches at Tornby, Kjul and Tversted. In this part of Denmark, driving on the beach is permitted, although the speed limit is 30 km/h.
The event, in his 48 edition, is organized by the Nordic jury group, but participation is open to all members of the international jury. Typically, more than 30 jurors from over 25 countries attend, creating a unique and truly global testing environment.
In addition, the jurors bring a significant number of assistants, many of whom are well-known voices in the automotive media, who contribute to making the Tannistest a key industry gathering.

The Tannistest is an excellent opportunity to put the models that will eventually make up the long list of candidates to the test before the seven finalists are selected for the 2027 edition of The Car of the Year.
