Leapmotor, the Chinese brand associated with the Stellantis Group, will launch two new models in Europe this year after the summer: the Leapmotor B05, a compact 5-door hatchback and the Leapmotor B03X, a B-segment SUV, both 100% electric. The B05, which we had the opportunity to drive briefly in Shanghai, demonstrated performance and range capabilities comparable to its primary competitors, though it is expected to be positioned with a more aggressive pricing strategy.

In terms of its physical profile, the B05 is a vehicle measuring 4.43 meters in length and 1.88 meters in width, featuring a wheelbase of 2.73 meters. The exterior design is characterized by rounded lines aimed at maximizing aerodynamic efficiency, resulting in a drag coefficient of 0.26 and a visual aesthetic that draws comparisons to the Volkswagen Golf.

The interior follows a minimalist trend often seen in modern Chinese vehicles, relying on a digital-first interface with almost no physical buttons. The cabin features an 8.8-inch instrument cluster and a larger 14.6-inch central display for managing all vehicle functions, while the gear selector is positioned behind the steering wheel.

Although the design is simple, the manufacturer has focused on material quality, incorporating soft-touch plastics and seats finished in a combination of suede and synthetic leather. Standard comfort features include a heated steering wheel and seats, along with a glass roof equipped with an electric sunshade.

Passenger space is a notable highlight, particularly in the rear where a flat floor and a generous distance between rows provide more room than many rivals. These rear seats also include backrests that can recline up to 27 degrees to improve passenger comfort.

For storage, the B05 offers a trunk capacity of 435 liters, a figure considered appropriate given that the motor and drive axle are situated at the rear. If additional cargo space is required, folding the rear seats increases the total capacity to 1.400 liters

This model is built upon the Leap 3.5 100% electric rear-wheel-drive platform, which uses an 800-volt architecture and helps maintain a total weight between 1,580 and 1,680 kilograms depending on the specific battery configuration

The range consists of two trim levels, Life and Design, both powered by a single rear motor producing 160 kW (212 HP). Energy is stored in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries available in two sizes: a 56.2 kWh version with a homologated range of 404 kilometers, and a 67,1 kWh version that extends the range to 482 kilometers.

Charging is similarly efficient, with a fast-charging capacity of 174 kW allowing the battery to go from 30% to 80% in about 17 minutes. Performance figures include an acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 160 km/h.

As for pricing, the Leapmotor B05 starts at 26.264 euros with the smaller battery, rising to 30.264 euros for the top‑spec version. In Spain, after applying all available incentives, the starting price is expected to be around 19.500 euros.
