The rest of the finalists for this year award, with six EV cars of the seven, have been Peugeot 308 (191 points), Skoda Enyaq iV (185), Ford Mustang Mach-E (150) and Cupra Born (144). Six of the finalists were fully electric cars, with the seven model available in either petrol or diesel version, or as a rechargeable plug-in hybrid. In the very start of the 2022 edition, 18 of the 39 first cars of the Long list were electric.
Presented by Alexandra Legouix, with the participation of the president of the COTY jury, Frank Janssen, and the CEO of the GIMS SWISS, Sandro Mesquita, this has been the third occasion that the ceremony was celebrated exclusively online in a row due to the pandemic situation, with the presence of the seven models that competed for this award.
The Jury for the Car of the Year 2022 consisted in this time of 59 members, representing 22 European countries, with the objective of finding the best new car on sale. “We’re still independent from the motoring industry and we still have no category”, said Frank Janssen. “We have only one winner at the end, we don’t provide a trophy for each of the participants, so that’s the reason why this prize is so recognize”.
